Hotels Near Lapland UK: Where to Stay in Ascot (and the Hotel We Would Book)

Oct 24
9 min read
A Christmas adventure in a Berkshire forest, tired little legs, and a warm, lovely room waiting just a few miles down the road. Some festive days out deserve a proper sleepover.

If you’re searching for hotels near Lapland UK, here’s my short answer: the one we would book is Royal Berkshire in Sunninghill, a red-brick country house hotel four miles from Lapland UK’s Ascot site in Whitmoor Forest. We stayed there as a family in spring, on a gifted stay, and loved it. I’ll be upfront, though: I haven’t been to Lapland UK myself, so this isn’t a review of the experience, and the other hotels in this guide are researched picks rather than places I’ve reviewed.

Arriving at Royal Berkshire Hotel in Ascot with the children

In this guide I’m sharing where to stay near Lapland UK in Ascot: where the site is, how the timed tours shape your hotel choice, why Royal Berkshire is the one we’d book, and five other well-placed hotels, with what each one offers and who it suits. If you’re weighing up family hotels near Lapland UK, here’s everything you need to know, including answers to the most common questions at the end...

Quick Links:

Where Is Lapland UK in Ascot?

Lapland UK’s Ascot site is in Whitmoor Forest on Swinley Road, Ascot, Berkshire, which Lapland UK says is around a mile and a half from Ascot train station. Its help pages give the postcode as SL5 8BD, but another page shows a slightly different one, so use the postcode on your booking confirmation for the sat nav.

At the time of writing, the 2026 season runs from 7 November to Christmas Eve, and Lapland UK says every booking includes a free parking space, which makes driving over from your hotel the easy option. Always check the official Lapland UK website for the latest dates.

Worth knowing: Lapland UK now has a second site at Capesthorne Hall in Cheshire, which it calls Lapland Manchester. This guide only covers Ascot, so do check which site is on your tickets before you book a room!

At the time of writing, standard Ascot tickets for 2026 are showing as sold out on the official website, so keep an eye on it (and the mailing list) for any returned tickets. Prices this year started from £60 per person, plus a £4.95 booking fee per ticket, but do check there for current prices and availability.

How Do Lapland UK’s Timed Tours Affect Where You Stay?

They matter more than the mileage. You book a set tour time and, at the time of writing, Lapland UK says tours leave every half hour from 8am to 6pm and the whole experience lasts around four and a half hours. Its help pages ask Ascot visitors to arrive 30 minutes early (check your own booking confirmation, as the guidance varies) and say latecomers can’t join a later tour, so a short, predictable drive is a total game changer with children.

Here’s how that plays out when you’re choosing a hotel:

  • Morning tours: stay the night before, so nobody is bundled into the car in the dark for a long drive

  • Afternoon tours: you’ll finish in the early evening or later, so staying that night means supper and bed are minutes away

  • The 6pm tour: Lapland UK says this one leaves at around 10pm, which is very late for little ones

  • The setting: most of the Ascot experience is outdoors in the forest, on paths that can be steep and muddy

The Hotel We Would Book: Royal Berkshire, Ascot

Royal Berkshire is the hotel I’d book for Lapland UK, and my reasoning is simple: it’s the one hotel in this guide I’ve reviewed, it worked brilliantly with our children, and we’d go back without hesitation. It sits on London Road in Sunninghill (postcode SL5 0PP), four miles from Lapland UK and barely 10 minutes from Legoland Windsor. Our stay was in spring, so my review doesn’t cover how the house looks dressed for Christmas.

We had a family suite overlooking the gardens, with a TV built into the bath (yes, really) and a rainfall shower that was absolute bliss. Our two were given an activity pack and treats, cots are free, and Z-beds were £40 per child, per night at the time of my review. The children’s afternoon tea is honestly the best we’ve ever had. You can read the whole story in my Royal Berkshire review.

The practical bits matter too. The hotel has 66 rooms and suites, 15 acres of gardens, parking for around 150 cars and dog-friendly rooms, and the Royal Berkshire website lists its own Christmas stays. Worth knowing: the hotel is cashless, doesn’t take American Express, and its website doesn’t list a swimming pool. This one is about gardens, good food and feeling looked after.

Other Hotels Near Lapland UK Ascot: Five Well-Placed Options

I haven’t reviewed any of these on the blog, so I’m not going to rank them or call any of them the best. Instead, here’s what each hotel’s own website says it offers, and the kind of family I think it would suit. Always check directly before you book.

Stirrups Hotel, Maiden’s Green

Stirrups describes itself as just three miles from Lapland UK and has a page of Lapland family rates. It’s a 46-bedroom hotel in 10 acres between Windsor and Ascot (postcode RG42 6LD), with family and interconnecting rooms for up to two adults and three children, and an activity pack for children aged 12 and under. It says it has no gym or spa. One for families who want close and uncomplicated.

Macdonald Berystede Hotel & Spa, Sunninghill

The Berystede says Lapland UK is under 10 minutes’ drive away. It’s a larger hotel on Bagshot Road (postcode SL5 9JH) with more than 120 bedrooms and suites, an 18-metre pool with children’s swim times listed as 9am to 11am and 4pm to 7pm daily, and an outdoor hydro-pool. Family room details weren’t clear on its website at the time of writing, so ask when you book. It would suit children who judge a hotel entirely by its pool.

Coworth Park, Ascot

Coworth Park is the Dorchester Collection’s country house hotel, set in a 240-acre estate on the edge of Windsor Great Park. Its website lists an indoor heated pool with daily family swim times and a Kids Club in a seven-room playhouse. At the time of writing, its Family Time offer gives 50% off a second room, from £820 per night for both rooms. A big-occasion choice, with a price to match.

De Vere Beaumont Estate, Old Windsor

De Vere Beaumont Estate is over in Old Windsor (postcode SL4 2JJ), about three miles from Windsor itself, so you swap a longer drive to Lapland UK for being close to the castle. Its website lists family rooms for three or four, around 40 acres of parkland and an indoor pool with free, pre-booked family swim sessions between 8am and 8pm. I’d look at it for families turning the trip into a Windsor weekend.

The Legoland Windsor Resort Hotels

If you’re pairing Lapland UK with Legoland at Christmas, staying on site makes sense. The Legoland Resort Hotel and Castle Hotel have themed rooms and a pirate splash pool that’s only for hotel guests. Festive sleepovers were listed from £85 per person at the time of writing, based on a family of four in a Woodland Village lodge. Best for Lego-mad little ones who would happily never leave.

What Else Can You Do Near Lapland UK at Christmas?

Plenty, which is the best argument for staying two nights. Windsor Great Park Illuminated is listed to run from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, with a 1.36-mile light trail that starts from the Savill Garden car park and takes around an hour and a half to two hours. At the time of writing, adult tickets start from £19.80 and children’s from £12.10, so check the park’s website for the latest.

Legoland at Christmas is listed for selected dates from 21 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, so check its website before you plan around it, and Windsor Castle is a short drive from Royal Berkshire. For fresh air without a ticket, the walk around Virginia Water lake in Windsor Great Park is about 4.5 miles on a flat path that’s good for buggies and scooters.

And if all of this has you dreaming about the real thing, I’ve been lucky enough to visit Finnish Lapland three times in winter. My Lapland in winter guide covers husky sledding, the Northern Lights and where to stay, and I’ve written a full guide to what to wear in Lapland too.

Hotels Near Lapland UK FAQs: Everything Families Ask

Here are the questions I get asked most about where to stay near Lapland UK.

What is the closest hotel to Lapland UK in Ascot?

There’s no official answer, because Lapland UK doesn’t recommend specific hotels. Of the hotels in this guide, going on what they say themselves, Stirrups Hotel is three miles away, Royal Berkshire is four miles away and the Macdonald Berystede is under 10 minutes’ drive. There may be closer places to stay that I haven’t covered here.

Can you stay overnight at Lapland UK?

No. People often search for Lapland UK hotels expecting one on site, but Lapland UK is a four and a half hour theatrical experience and doesn’t offer overnight stays, so you’ll need to book a hotel separately.

How far is Royal Berkshire Hotel from Lapland UK?

Four miles, according to the hotel. If you’re coming by train, Ascot station is around 2.3 miles from Royal Berkshire and about a mile and a half from Lapland UK, and it has a taxi rank.

Which hotels near Lapland UK have a swimming pool?

Of the hotels in this guide, the Macdonald Berystede, Coworth Park and De Vere Beaumont Estate all list pools with family or children’s swim times, and the Legoland Resort Hotel and Castle Hotel share a splash pool for their guests. Stirrups says it has no gym or spa, and Royal Berkshire doesn’t list a pool.

Should you stay the night before or the night after Lapland UK?

It depends on your tour time. For a morning tour, stay the night before so you wake up minutes away. For an afternoon tour, stay that night instead. If you can stretch to two nights, do both and add Windsor.

When is Lapland UK open in 2026?

At the time of writing, the official website lists 7 November to Christmas Eve, 24 December 2026, with tours every half hour from 8am to 6pm. Standard Ascot tickets were showing as sold out, so check there for the latest dates and any returned tickets before you book a room you can’t cancel.

Tips for Booking a Hotel Near Lapland UK

Here’s what I’d pass on to anyone planning a stay:

  • 1. Secure your tickets first. At the time of writing, Ascot’s standard 2026 tickets were showing as sold out, so don’t book a non-refundable room on hope.

  • 2. Match your tour time to the hotel’s timings. Royal Berkshire’s check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 11am, so a morning tour means packing the car before you leave.

  • 3. Ask about breakfast. At the time of my review, weekend breakfast at Royal Berkshire started at 8am (7am on weekdays), which won’t work for the earliest tours.

  • 4. Phone for family rooms. Stirrups says it keeps some of its largest family and interconnecting rooms for phone bookings, and it’s best to call Royal Berkshire ahead about cots and Z-beds too.

  • 5. Pack wellies and spare shoes. The Ascot site is mostly outdoors, and Lapland UK warns that local taxis may refuse muddy passengers.

The Honest Bits

As always, here’s what you should know. I haven’t been to Lapland UK myself, so nothing in this guide is a review of the experience itself, and our Royal Berkshire stay was in spring, so my review doesn’t cover the hotel at Christmas. Stirrups, the Berystede, Coworth Park, Beaumont Estate and the Legoland hotels aren’t places I’ve reviewed on the blog either. Everything I’ve said about them comes from their own websites, checked in October 2026.

Royal Berkshire has its quirks too. There’s no room service, and it’s a popular wedding venue, so weekends can be lively. And with tickets from £60 per person before fees, a hotel on top is a treat rather than a necessity.

Final Thoughts: Where Would We Stay for Lapland UK?

Royal Berkshire, without much hesitation. It’s the one I’ve reviewed, it’s four miles from the forest, our two didn’t want to leave, and it has the gardens, the afternoon tea and the warmth of service that I think of as real luxury. It’s also part of the same Exclusive Collection as Ansty Hall in Warwickshire, where we’ve stayed as a family too.

That said, the right hotel near Lapland UK is the one that fits your tour time and your children. Whichever you choose, book it once your tickets are confirmed, pack the wellies and enjoy every magical minute.

Ad/PR Invite, our stays at Royal Berkshire and Ansty Hall were kindly gifted by Exclusive Hotels. The five other hotels in this guide are included on research alone and are not stays I’ve reviewed. As always opinions are my own.
