Ansty Hall, Warwickshire: A Family Stay at Coventry’s Reborn Country House Hotel
Updated: Oct 12
A Georgian manor reborn, eight acres of Warwickshire countryside, and a restaurant that tells the story of the weavers who once shaped this corner of England. Ansty Hall is the kind of place that rewards curiosity.
We recently spent a family stay at Ansty Hall, a beautifully restored country house hotel just outside Coventry and the newest addition to the Exclusive Collection. Having loved our time at its sister hotels, I was so curious to see how the group had brought its signature warmth to the Midlands, and I’m happy to report it didn’t disappoint.

In this guide I’m sharing everything from our stay: the history of the house, our family room, eating at Twine, the Indian-inspired High Chai afternoon tea, the gardens, and all the best things to do nearby, from Coombe Abbey Park to Warwick Castle. If you’re researching a luxury family hotel in Warwickshire or near Coventry, here’s everything you need to know...

Where is Ansty Hall?
Ansty Hall sits on Main Road in the pretty village of Ansty (postcode CV7 9HZ), on the north-eastern edge of Coventry in North Warwickshire. Despite being only a short drive from the city, it feels properly rural, with the house set in eight acres of grounds overlooking open Warwickshire countryside.
It’s an incredibly well-connected spot for a family break. The motorway network is close by, making it an easy drive from London, the North and everywhere in between, and it’s ideally placed for exploring Coventry, Warwick, Kenilworth and Stratford-upon-Avon. If you’re travelling by train, both Coventry and Nuneaton stations are around six miles away, and there’s plenty of parking on site, with around 100 spaces including accessible parking.
It also makes a brilliant base if you’re heading to an event at the NEC, which is just up the road, so it’s worth bookmarking for concert or show weekends too.
A Little History: The Phoenix of Warwickshire
Ansty Hall is a Grade II listed manor house dating back to the 17th century, with handsome red-brick Georgian architecture and centuries of stories within its walls. Right next door is a church redesigned by Sir George Gilbert Scott, the celebrated architect behind London’s St Pancras station, which gives the whole setting a wonderfully timeless, village-green feel.
The Exclusive Collection bought the hotel in 2023 and invested in a complete refurbishment before officially welcoming guests in September 2024. The hotel’s emblem is the Phoenix, a nod to the house being reborn, and you can really feel that sense of renewal as you walk around. It became the seventh country house hotel in the collection, alongside the likes of Pennyhill Park, South Lodge and Royal Berkshire, and its first in the Midlands.
What I love most is how the design tells the story of the region. The interiors pay tribute to Coventry’s weaving and textile heritage and its pioneering motoring industry, with art and pottery made by local hands, regionally woven upholstery and lots of subtle details to discover. The hotel calls itself a home of discovery, and it’s a genuinely fitting description, with something new to spot around every corner. Like its sister hotels, Ansty Hall is also B Corp certified, which I always appreciate.

First Impressions
Arriving at Ansty Hall, you’re greeted by that classic red-brick façade framed by mature trees and lawns, and it immediately feels special. Inside, the refurbishment is beautifully done: elegant and characterful, with period features sitting comfortably alongside bold colours, curated books and artwork. The décor and vibe felt classic and luxurious, two things I always look for when choosing a traditional heritage manor house for a family staycation. The children love this type of stay too, as there are always so many treasures to discover, from the pieces adorning the walls to the little hideaways tucked around every corner.

Check-in is from 2pm, which is earlier than many country house hotels and a real bonus with children, and check-out is by 11am. The hotel is cashless, so bring a card or phone to pay for everything during your stay.
Our Stay: The Family Room
Ansty Hall has 62 bedrooms, split between the main house and Weavers, a separate wing whose name is another nod to the area’s textile history. For families, there are dedicated family rooms in both the main house and Weavers, offering more than enough space to keep everyone comfortable. They even left activity packs and snacks for the little ones, a detail that we are learning is very typical and lovely of the Exclusive Hotels collection.

Cots are available free of charge and Z-beds for children are £25 per child, per night, which is very reasonable for a hotel of this standard. Unusually for a country house hotel, Ansty Hall also offers room service, with an in-room dining menu, which is a real lifesaver on those evenings when the little ones are tired and you’d rather stay tucked up in your room. There are also dog-friendly rooms and a dedicated Tails & Trails package if you’re bringing your four-legged family member along.
Eating at Twine
Twine is Ansty Hall’s restaurant, and it’s one of the most unique hotel restaurants I’ve come across. The décor is absolurely stunning and the menu is full of comfortingly familiar British classics, each elevated with signature twists and a thread of Indian influence. It’s a clever nod to the diverse communities that have shaped Coventry, and it makes for a really exciting menu.

For families, there’s a dedicated children’s menu, and the atmosphere is relaxed rather than formal, so you never feel like you need to shush the little ones. The wine list is impressive too, if you fancy a glass once the children are settled. I was particularly impressed with the breakfast menu here, especially as there were familiar choices for our little ones such as porridge, pancakes and even chia seed pudding - so this gives it five stars from us and the children thoroughly enjoyed breakfast feasting at this hotel.
Breakfast is served from 6.30am to 9.30am Tuesday to Friday (7am on Mondays), and from 8am to 10.30am at weekends and on bank holidays. Dinner tables start from 6.30pm each evening.
Sunday lunch: if you’re staying over a weekend, Sunday lunch is well worth booking. It’s a proper family feast, with a choice of traditional roasts, seasonal vegetables and all-important roast potatoes, served family-style so everyone can help themselves. It’s perfect for multi-generational gatherings, and the relaxed, sharing style works brilliantly with children.
High Chai: Afternoon Tea with a Twist
Afternoon tea at Ansty Hall comes with a twist. Their High Chai is a unique take on the classic afternoon tea, with savoury bites, scones and sweet treats, but not quite like you’ve had them before, with flavours that echo the Indian influence found in Twine. It’s a really fun and different experience, and a lovely way to celebrate a special occasion as a family. We all loved experiencing this and I particularly loved the way the afternoon tea was split into five stages with the tea selection to begin with as usual, and then we has the savouries, followed by a mini chai soup, and then the sweet dishes, finally finished with the scones. This really is a lovely way to celebrate a special anniversary and its perfect for both couples, friends and families.

You can, of course, add a glass of bubbles alongside, and seasonal versions run throughout the year, including festive afternoon teas in December. As with all afternoon teas, I’d recommend booking ahead, especially at weekends.
The Other Spaces
Beyond Twine, the Lounge, Bar and Tea Room is the heart of the house, serving seasonal plates and drinks all day long. It’s the kind of space that works for everything, from a morning coffee while the children play a board game, to a relaxed lunch or an evening drink.
When the weather is kind, the terrace is the place to be, with drinks and snacks served outside overlooking the gardens and countryside. There’s something so lovely about sitting out with a drink while the children run about on the lawns in front of you. We were blessed with a really sunny day and we enjoyed lunch and drinks in the gardens followed by exploring the gardens and playing a round of croquet as well as other giant lawn games.

Things to Do Near Ansty Hall
One of the biggest draws of Ansty Hall is its location in the heart of England, surrounded by history, green spaces and brilliant family attractions. Here are the best things to do nearby:
Coombe Abbey Park
Just seven minutes from the hotel, Coombe Abbey Park is 500 acres of stunning gardens, woodland walks, lakes and wildlife. It’s perfect for a morning with children, with plenty of space to explore, lots of birdlife on the water and a brilliant play area. If you only do one thing nearby, make it this.
Coventry Cathedral
Coventry Cathedral is a place of real wonder and history. The ruins of the medieval cathedral, destroyed during the Blitz in 1940, stand alongside the striking modern cathedral built after the war, and there’s also a Blitz museum. It’s a moving and fascinating visit, and a wonderful way to introduce older children to history.
Coventry Transport Museum
Coventry is the birthplace of the British motor industry, and the Coventry Transport Museum celebrates that heritage brilliantly, with some of the world’s fastest cars, bicycles and interactive, educational exhibits. It’s a hit with children of all ages, and a lovely way to connect the history you see in the hotel’s interiors with the real thing.
Herbert Art Gallery & Museum
Close to the cathedral, the Herbert celebrates Coventry’s cultural and creative past, with exhibitions and hands-on spaces that make it a perfect family day out, especially on a rainy day.
Lunt Roman Fort
For proper history, the Lunt Roman Fort in Baginton is a partially reconstructed Roman fort around 2,000 years old, complete with a gateway and ramparts to explore. Little ones who love a bit of adventure will adore it. It opens during school holidays, so check dates before you go.
Hatton Country World
Hatton Country World is a day out that has it all for families, from an adventure world and animal encounters to country trails and plenty more. It’s a great option if you want a full day of entertainment for younger children.
Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle
You’re within easy reach of two of England’s most impressive castles. Warwick Castle is a family favourite, with its towers, ramparts and shows bringing history to life, while the romantic red sandstone ruins of Kenilworth Castle are wonderful for exploring at a slower pace. Both make easy day trips from Ansty Hall.
Stratford-upon-Avon
Shakespeare’s birthplace is a lovely day trip, with its Tudor buildings, riverside walks and boats on the Avon. Even if the children are too young for the Bard, a stroll along the river and an ice cream by the water is always a winner.
Canal Boat Hire
Warwickshire has a beautiful network of canals, and hiring a narrowboat for the day with Rose Narrowboats is a wonderful way to slow down and see the countryside from the water. Children love working the locks and spotting wildlife along the towpath.
Mana Spa
If you can squeeze in a little time to yourself, Mana Spa is just 15 minutes from Ansty Hall and a real haven of relaxation. Perfect for a parent swap morning while the other takes the children out exploring.
Our Suggested Family Weekend Itinerary
If you’re planning a weekend at Ansty Hall with children, here’s how I’d spend it:
Day one: arrive for 2pm check-in and let the children loose on the garden games while you settle in. Enjoy an early dinner at Twine from the children’s menu, or take advantage of room service for a cosy night in once they’re asleep.
Day two: after a leisurely weekend breakfast, head to Coombe Abbey Park for the morning, then drive into Coventry for the Transport Museum and the cathedral ruins. Return to the hotel for High Chai or a drink on the terrace before dinner.
Day three: book Sunday lunch at Twine for a proper family feast, or check out and make a day of it at Warwick Castle on your way home.
Tips for Your Stay
These are the things I’d pass on to anyone planning a family stay:
Book a family room early. There are dedicated family rooms in both the main house and Weavers, so ask about the differences when you book.
Make the most of the 2pm check-in. Arriving early gives you a whole afternoon to enjoy the grounds before dinner.
Request cots and Z-beds in advance. Cots are free and Z-beds are £25 per child, per night.
Book Twine and High Chai ahead. Especially at weekends and for Sunday lunch, which is popular with local families.
Use room service. It’s a real bonus with young children, so don’t feel you have to eat out every night.
Check the offers page. Ansty Hall regularly runs family-friendly offers, including kids stay free and discounts for longer stays during school holidays.
Bring a car. The nearest train stations are around six miles away, and the best local attractions are much easier to reach by car.
Check the cancellation policy. Standard bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to seven days before arrival, but many special rates can’t be cancelled or transferred.
Is It Good for Families?
Absolutely. With dedicated family rooms, free cots, a children’s menu, room service, garden games and eight acres to explore, Ansty Hall is genuinely set up for families. Add in its central location, with Coombe Abbey Park minutes away and castles, museums and canals all within easy reach, and it makes a fantastic base for a family break in the heart of England.
It strikes that lovely balance I’m always looking for, where the children feel welcome and entertained, and the grown-ups still get to enjoy the elegance, great food and thoughtful design of a proper country house hotel.
The Honest Bits
As always, here are the little things worth knowing before you book. Ansty Hall is a popular wedding venue, with the church next door and the Orangery in the grounds, so it’s worth being aware that weekends can be lively with celebrations. It’s also best reached by car, as the nearest stations are around six miles away, and the standard seven-day cancellation window is a little stricter than some hotels, so check your rate carefully.
None of this took the shine off our stay, but I always think it’s helpful to go in with eyes open so you can plan around it.
